Opening Range with Breakouts & Targets
By LuxAlgoSep 17, 2024
Opening Range with Breakouts & Targets maps the opening range of any session, then handles the follow-through: breakout signals when price escapes the range, and a ladder of targets projected from a percentage of the range's width. It is the house implementation of a playbook long valued by traders such as Toby Crabel and Mark Fisher: establish the early high and low, then trade the resolution.
How to Trade the Opening Range with Breakouts & Targets?
- Breakout arrows: print at the range's top and bottom once price breaches the OR high or low; a volume uptick on the break helps validate it.
- Directional bias: today's range above the prior day's paints the zone green, below paints it red, and counter-bias signals wait until the first target in that direction is crossed.
- Target ladder: levels generate continuously as a percentage of range width; Extended mode projects every level touched in the session, Adaptive keeps just the two nearest targets around price.
- Risk placement: the range mean or the opposite edge serve as natural stops, the session moving average works as a dynamic alternative, and the ladder doubles as staged profit targets.
On days that look rangebound, the same levels invert: fade moves back toward the opposite edge or the mean instead of chasing the break.
